Unlike the purple cap race, there is a little difference in the contenders for the orange cap in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. After the low-scoring clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 31, there were no changes in the top five leading run-scorers of the season.
The top spot is occupied by Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Nicholas Pooran whereas Mitchell Marsh is placed fourth. They have a chance to extend lead over other players when LSG take on (Punjab Kings) PBKS in Lucknow on April 1. PBKS who have played just one match so far have just one player in top 20. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer will have a chance to move up the table or even secure the pole position. He scored a match-winning unbeaten 97 against Gujarat Titans (GT) in PBKS' campaign opener.

Surya in top 10
The only change in the top 10 after the March 31 game was MI's Suryakumar Yadav surpassing Quinton de Kock to take the 10th spot. With an unbeaten nine-ball 27 cameo featuring three fours and two sixes, Suryakumar now has 104 runs from three games. De Kock missed out on moving up the ranks as he was dismissed for a single by Deepak Chahar.
So far, there are 12 batters who have scored 100 or more runs in the IPL 2025. Pooran is on top with 145 runs which indicates that the orange cap may change a few heads before it becomes a race between a few players.
