Ayush Mhatre has been selected by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as an injury replacement for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is unable to play in the 2025 Indian Premier League because of an elbow fracture. However, Smaran Ravichandran has joined Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to replace Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who is injured. Mhatre, who represents Mumbai in domestic cricket, has amassed 962 runs in nine first-class games and seven List A games.

For INR 30 lakh, the 17-year-old right-handed hitter, who last year shattered Yashasvi Jaiswal's record for the youngest batter to smash a score of 150 or more in List A cricket, joins CSK. Mhatre is from Virar, a suburb outside of Mumbai. He has not played competitive T20 cricket yet, but he made 176 runs in three games for India in the 2024–25 Men's U19 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, and he recently went to the CSK midseason tryouts.

On Monday night, CSK is now playing the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in its seventh game at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. On April 20, the team, now captained by MS Dhoni, will take on the Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, Ravichandran, SRH's newest addition from Bengaluru, has just finished playing seven first-class games, ten List A matches, and six T20 matches, scoring more than 1100 runs in these contests.

Joining SRH for INR 30 lakh is the 21-year-old left-handed hitter, who plays domestic cricket for Karnataka and scored 516 runs during the team's victorious Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) campaign earlier this year. The ninth-placed SRH will next play the seventh-place Mumbai Indians on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium.
