Delhi Capitals stand-in captain Faf du Plessis believes that their failure to qualify in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs was a reflection of a faltering campaign. Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians defeated DC by 59 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to seal their berth in IPL 2025 playoffs.
DC were eliminated after failing to chase 181, crumbling to 121 all out for a massive 59-run defeat.
“If you looked at the two teams before today's fixture, it was a case of David and Goliath, I enjoy that because it gives guys the opportunity to really play together as a team,” du Plessis said in the post-match presentation.
Sameer Rizvi was the highest run-getter for Mumbai, scoring 39 off 35. Du Plessis praised the young batter for his performance against MI and also accepted that their last two average were pretty average.
“Rizvi today showed some signs, he's got some talent there. When you're playing against a powerful team like this, you need to be at your best all the time and unfortunately for 17-18 overs we were and then the last two overs we were pretty average" added Du Plessis.
Du Plessis also reckoned that the team need to have a good start on a batting-friendly surface like Wankhede. He said that the team failed to perform in both batting and bowling in the last six to seven games.

“With the bat, we needed a good start on a surface like that and we didn't get going at all. Sums up pretty much our season, we've been cold in either batting or bowling in the last 6-7 games. To be in the top four in the IPL, you can't afford to do that” Du Plessis also said
After defeating DC, MI joined Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings to seal their berth in IPL 2025 playoffs.
