A beauty from Jamieson. Angled in before nipping away off the deck, on a short of a length, around off. Ollie Robinson hops to keep it out with a straight bat. He is squared up by the seam movement and is well beaten.

Well down leg, on the shorter side. Robinson lets it pass.

Sliding onto the pads, fuller in length. Ollie glances it down to deep fine leg for a run.

Dug in short, over off. Tongue ducks under it.

Oh, that could have gone anywhere. Will O'Rourke hits the good length, on off. Tongue presents a straight bat for the block. The ball kicks up to hit the splice of the blade and it rolls to point.

Goes fuller now, on off. Tongue knocks it to mid on.

Just outside the off stump, on a back of a length. Tongue defends inside the line of the ball and is beaten.

FOUR! Put away! Fractionally short, on off. Brook stays on the back foot and gets on top of the bounce. Pulls it through the vacant mid-wicket region. The deep square leg fielder sprints to his left and slides but in vain.

Well, well. Smith bowls it on a good length, on off and middle. Brook shimmies down the track and swings for the hills, leaving nothing in the tank but misses by a long way.

At the stumps, on a nagging length, Brook squeezes out an inside edge onto the pads.

No ball! Down leg, on a back of a length, Brook lets it go.

Around off, on a back of a length, kept out on the off side.

OUT! CAUGHT! Harry Brook holes out. He could not have picked out the fielder in the deep any better. Not the best of deliveries by Nathan Smith but he will take it. Sprayed down leg, on a length. Brook swings at it and he has no intention of keeping it on the ground. He wanted to go a lot squarer but ended up playing it straight down the throat of Kyle Jamieson at deep fine leg. Jamieson takes a reverse cup catch in front of his face, a few yards in off the ropes. Brook falls and England slip into further trouble. The hosts are now 113/8.

FOUR! Edged away! On a back of a length, on off. Tongue looks to play the line of the ball from the crease. The ball nips back in to catch the inside edge and it goes past the keeper's left for a boundary.

On the fuller side, outside off. Gus opens the bat face and eases it wide of point for a single.

Beaten! Jamieson hits the good length, outside off. Brook pokes at the delivery and is lucky not to nick this one behind.

FOUR! A bit uppish but damage averted. That will be FIFTY for Harry Brook. On a hard length, on off. Brook hangs back to deal with it. The ball kicks up a bit as Harry tries to fend it off. It flies behind off a thickish outside edge but well wide of Henry Nicholls at gully to his left. It has been a gritty effort from Brook. He has been handed a couple of lifelines, but he has shown plenty of resolve.

Fuller and on off, Brook attempts the cover drive but miscues it off the inner half wide of mid on for a single.

Outside off, not close enough to make the batter play and Gus Atkinson lets it pass.

OUT! LBW! Trapped in front. Jamieson delivers it on a length, on off and middle. Atkinson hangs his bat out to cover the line. The ball lands and jags back in to go through the yawning gap left by Gus between the bat and the pad. It catches him on the back pad right in front of the stumps and the finger is raised. Brook gestures that it is going down leg and Atkinson goes for the review. Daylight between the bat and the pad and it is three reds on Ball Tracking with the ball crashing into the middle stump. Atkinson takes a review with him. England are now 108/7.

In and around the off pole, on a back of a length. Harry steers it to gully.

Half a shout for LBW! The appeal dies down quickly. Fractionally short, over middle. Brook pivots on the back foot to shovel it away on the leg side but the ball sneaks under the bat and catches him on the thigh.

Goes full now, on off. Brook defends it from the crease.

Just outside the off stump, on a back of a length. Brook pushes it wide of cover and crosses over.

Leg bye! Too straight on the pads. Atkinson swings at it but fails to lay any bat on it. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes behind on the leg side.

Moving away in the air, on a length. Harry guides it to backward point.

Moving away off the seam, on a good length, on off. Brook gives the bowler the charge but is squared up by the movement. He angles it to gully.

Rapped on the pads but that is too high and seemed to be going down leg as well. On middle and leg, on a short of a length. Brook is beaten while trying to turn it away and gets hit high on the back thigh.

Goes past the bat! In the corridor, bowled on a short of a length. Brook has a fiddle at the ball away from his body. The ball angles in before going away off the surface to beat Harry on the outside edge.

DROPPED! For the second time, Harry Brook has been put down. First one on 8 by Devon Conway and now on 45 by Rachin Ravindra. Jamieson drags his length back, on off. Brook plays the short-arm jab but he cannot keep it down. Hits it flat to deep square leg, where Ravindra moves to his left and it gets to him at waist height. Not sure if Rachin needed to jump there but he did and was on the move when the ball got to him. The ball hits his palm and pops out. Single taken and the 100 comes up for England.

Fuller and angled into the pads, Atkinson misses out on the tickle and wears it on the front pad.

Outside off, served on a length. Gus lets it go.

Around off, on a back of a length. Brook stays back and plays the late dab. It gets it just past the diving gully fielder, who dives and gets a hand on it. Single taken.

Attacking the front pad with a good-length ball by going wide on the crease. Atkinson stabs it down on the leg side.

Nicely done. Slightly fuller, slanting in at the stumps. Atkinson presents the full face of the blade and plays it back past the bowler. Will O'Rourke goes after it from mid on and dives to flick the ball away from the fence. It is mopped up by the converging mid off fielder. Gus is off the mark with three runs.

Angled in at the pads, on a back of a length. Brook glances it down to deep fine leg. They cross.

A hint of nip away, on a nagging length, outside off. Gus shoulders arms.

This is pitched up, on off. Atkinson lets it pass.

A bit too full by Jamieson, on off. Brook brings his bat out in front and firms the drive down the ground. Will O'Rourke dives to his left and gets a hand on it, taking the sting out of the shot. It slows down and Will is able to cut it off. The batters thought about the third run but Brook sent his skipper back. Stokes pulls up a bit while returning. Two runs taken.

FOUR! Hit with real authority. Not all that short, over off. Brook presses on the back foot quickly and pulls it over square leg for his 8th boundary.

This is on a hard length, over off. Brook wrists it off the back foot wide of mid on to his right for a single.

FOUR! Fine shot. Jamieson looks to bang it in short but this sits up to be hit, on the off stump, just above the waist. Stokes swivels nicely and pulls it behind square leg to pick up a boundary.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! A stunning catch by Kane Williamson to send the English skipper packing. Jamieson pushes his length up and keeps it around the off stump. Stokes pushes it out in front of his body with hard hands. The outside edge is found and it goes low towards third slip, where Kane Williamson dives to his right, in front of Tom Latham stationed at second slip. Williamson sticks out his right hand to take the catch. The ball threatens to pop out, but he manages to cling to it close to his right shoulder. End of a 39-run stand. England are now 94/6.

In the channel, on a good length. Gus Atkinson brings his bat out in front but does not push at the ball. He plays inside the line and the ball goes through to the keeper.

Full and honing in on the off stump, seaming back in. Stokes hangs back to defend.

Keeps it outside the off stump, on a nagging length. Ben presses back to punch it down the ground but the ball keeps a bit low. It goes off the toe end back to the bowler.

FOUR! This will help the English skipper feel a little better. Smith attacks the stumps with a fuller ball. Stokes is standing out of the crease and he takes a couple of steps down the track. He leans across and clips it past mid-wicket for a four.

At 135 kph, on a back of a length, on off. Stokes punches it neatly off the back foot but can't get it past point.

Well kept out! Smith bowls it on a slightly back of a length, on middle. Stokes hops back to deal with it. The ball scoots through but Ben does well to pat it down the strip.

Delivers it on a good length, in line with the off stump. Stokes covers the line and defends it out.

Hits the good length, just outside the off stump. Brook watchfully defends it off.

Jagging back in, on a short of a length, on off. Brook taps it to cover.

Missed out! Width offered by Jamieson, on the shorter side. Brook does not quite commit himself to the cut and goes at it half-heartedly. Ends up chopping it down towards gully.

FOUR! Not where Brook intended but he will take it. This is fuller in length, on off. Brook gives the bowler the charge and stays leg side of the ball to force the drive through the off side. Miscues it off the inner half to the left of mid on for a boundary.

FOUR! In complete control this time. Jamieson errs in his length as he dishes out a half-volley, on off and middle. Brook lets the ball come to him and plays it right under his eyes. Eases the drive to the left of mid on for four more runs.

Brook was keen on a tap and run as he blocks a length delivery around covers but Stokes denies the single as this was too risky. 

Pitched-up delivery, wide of off, Harry Brook drives this towards short extra cover. Brook did not time this well.

 FOUR! No half measures this time from Brook. Half-volley, wide of off, Harry Brook stands tall and goes after it. Drives this through square on off for a boundary. 

This wasn't the best of shot-selection from Brook, but he gets away with it. Slightly short of a length, angling into the batter on middle and off. Harry Brook goes for a lofted punch over the bowler's head but gets it away high off his bat to the left of mid on for two.

 OUT! TIMBER! A misjudgement from Jamie Smith and Kyle Jamieson has made a mess of the furniture. Kyle bowls this fuller in length, just outside the off pole. Jamie Smith leaves this, probably assuming that this would bounce over the woodwork, looking at the height of the bowler, but the invariable bounce of the deck comes into play. The ball keeps low and also nips back to uproot the off pole. England are now 55/5.

Stokes is off the mark with a couple. Good length, on middle and leg, Ben Stokes flicks this through square leg and runs two.

This could have easily been 57 for 6. Good length, around off, Ben gets in two minds to either play at it or leave it, but ends up doing neither, and the ball catches the bottom edge of his bat and drops beside the off stump.

 FOUR BYES! Wayward from Kyle Jamieson as he bowls this on a back of a length and angling way down the leg side. Ben Stokes leaves it and despite diving full stretch to his right, the keeper fails to get anywhere close to gathering it. The ball races to the fine leg fence. 

Will O'Rourke bowls it on a good length, in the line of the stumps. Harry Brook dead bats it.

 FOUR! Brook is keeping his foot on the pedal and the scorecard is ticking along. Short and on middle and off, Harry Brook stays deep inside his crease and pulls this in the gap towards the backward square leg region for four runs. 

Back of a length, on off. Harry Brook looks to punch this off his back foot but the ball shapes just a hint into the batter and Brook inside edges this towards leg slip.

Short and on off, Harry Brook blocks this towards backward point.

Around that nagging length from Will, drifting down the leg side. Harry Brook misses out on hitting this with the bat and gets thud into his front pad. Just a polite appeal from the visitors. Nothing given.

The field was set for a short one but Smith bluffs and bowls a fuller delivery, on off. Harry Brook was up for it as he punches this past mid off for a couple. 

 FOUR! This is a lot more authoritative from Harry Brook. Short-pitched delivery, around off, Harry Brook swivels and pulls this through the gap between mid-wicket and deep square leg for four runs. The 50 is up for England.

A loud shout for LBW but that looked high. Hard length, around off, shaping back into the batter. The ball skids on Brook and he is beaten on the inside edge. Brook gets hit on the back thigh and the ball deflects behind the stumps.

Back of a length, on middle and leg, Harry Brook works this through the right of the mid-wicket fielder for a single. 

Short and on the pads, Jamie flicks this towards fine leg for a single. 

 FOUR! More of a punch off the front foot than a square drive but the result remains four for Brook. Good length, around off, Harry gets close to the pitch of the ball, and while standing tall, he punches this through the point region for a boundary. 

Will hits the hard length, on the pads, Harry Brook steps inside the line of it but fails to help it away.

Short and around the leg side, Harry Brook leaves it.

Will goes full and bowls one into the batter but drifting down the leg side. Harry Brook goes for a flick but misses and gets hit on the front pad.

 DROPPED! Harry Brook gets a lifeline on 8 as Devon Conway drops him. Short and around off, too close to cut but Brook rocks back and slashes hard at it. The ball flies straight to Devon Conway at backward point at a comfortable height over his right shoulder but Devon can't cling on. Single taken. 

Smith errs in line but goes unscratched as Brook leaves this short one down the leg side all alone.

Short and around off, Harry gets up on his toes and punches this to point.

Play and a miss. Good length, wide of off, shooting a bit more on the batter. Harry has a dab at it but the ball beats the outside edge of his bat.

 FOUR! This would make Brook feel better and the English fans will love this sight as well. Smith goes a shade full and bowls it wide of off, Harry presses onto the front foot and punches this through the point region for a boundary. Despite a valiant chase from Devon Conway, the ball wins the race to the fence.

Good length, around off, Brook solidly keeps it out.

This is a textbook front foot defensive stroke from Joe Root. Good length around middle and off, Joe Root shifts his bodyweight onto his front foot, meets the ball with the middle of his bat right underneath his eyeline and keeps it out.

A touch short and wide of off. Joe Root slashes at the ball. It goes off the toe end and catches Tom Latham by surprise. It bounces in front of Latham at second slip and smashes him on the shin. 

Hard length, on off, Joe Root defends this off his back foot.

 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Will O'Rourke gets the big fish. Right in the channel from O'Rourke, in the corridor of uncertainty. Joe Root doesn't move his feet much and just tries to run it down with a slightly open bat face. The height of Will helps him extract an extra bit of bounce, and there is a bit of nip away, enough to induce an outside edge of Root's bat. It is taken well around his chest by the keeper, Tom Blundell behind the stumps. 

This one dies in front of the keeper. Full and wide of off, Jamie shows no interest in poking at it. The ball drops in front of the keeper but Tom Blundell does well to gather it diving to his right.

Hard length, around off, Joe pushes this gently towards point and takes a single.

A loud appeal for LBW, but it is turned down. In the channel, around off, swinging back into the batter. Harry Brook looks to punch this down to covers but ekes out an inside edge onto his pads. Tom Latham opts for a DRS after some convincing from the bowler. The replay shows a clear inside edge, and the visitors lose a review.

Right in the channel from Will, around off. Jacob Bethell is forced to play at it and the youngster does well to block this underneath his eyeline off his front foot.

A shade fuller this time from Will and Jacob punches this off his front foot through the mid off region to take a couple.

Will O'Rourke drags the length back again and bowls this on a good length, on top of off. JB defends this to the right of the bowler.

OUT! LBW! Change in length has done the trick for Will O'Rourke. Bowls this on a length and angles it back into the batter. Jacob Bethell goes for a straight drive but misses. The ball clips the front pad before it deflects off the back pad towards the fielder at first slip. NZ are appealing for both LBW and a catch as this was really close to the bat, but the umpire shrugs it away. This is sent upstairs by Tom Latham. The replay shows a clear gap between the bat and the ball, and the umpire moves on to Ball Tracking, which confirms three reds with the ball hitting the middle stump. The on-field decision is asked to be overturned, and Jacob Bethell has to walk back. England are now 3 down for 33.

Smell the leather, says Will to Brook by bowling a bouncer first up. Harry sways away.

Right in the channel from Smith, on off, on a good length. Ben Duckett punches this firmly towards covers.

 FOUR! This is the Ben Duckett that the English supporters are used to seeing. Back of a length, around off, Ben Duckett rides the bounce and punches this off his back foot. Opens the face of his bat to place this in the gap through point for four runs.

 OUT! LBW! With Duckett walking back, both the English openers are back in the dressing room now. Smith bowls this around that nagging length, on middle and shapes it back into the batter. Ben Duckett gets beaten by the seam movement on offer and the ball brushes the front pad before hitting the flap of the back pad. A loud appeal by the visitors and the umpire raises his finger. Ben Duckett has a lengthy chat with Jacob at the other end, but he eventually decides not to refer this upstairs. The Ball Tracking later shows that it is three reds with the ball crashing into the leg pole.

Smith bowls it fuller to Root, wide of off, shaping it away from the batter. Joe Root gives it a good look and leaves it.

Nathan hits the deck hard and bowls it around off, Joe Root dabs this on the deck to keep it out.

Will starts the post-Lunch session with a short one, around off. Ben Duckett gets lured into pushing at it away from his body but gets beaten on the outside edge.

Good length, wide of off, Ben Duckett takes a half-step towards the pitch of the ball and offers no stroke at it in the end.

Pitched-up delivery, around off, Ben Duckett plays a front foot punch that sneaks past the diving extra cover fielder to his right and the batters run three.

Hard length, around off, Jacob Bethell gets right behind the line of the ball and keeps it out.

Back of a length, around middle and leg. Jacob Bethell does well to push this wide to the right of the fielder at short leg for a dot.

A wayward delivery by the tall pacer from NZ. Bouncer, wide outside off, Jacob doesn't offer any stroke at it. 

Fractionally short, just outside off. Duckett stays leg side of the ball and taps the ball on its head as he plays it to backward point.

Goes a bit fuller now, on off. Duckett pushes it to mid on.

Taken but no bat involved. Bowled on a length, on middle. Duckett stays back to defend but the ball jags back in to beat him on the inside edge. It pings him on the thigh before it is taken at second slip by Kane Williamson.

Serves it full, on off. A bit of away movement off the surface. Duckett gets on the front foot and drops it with soft hands in front of point for a quick single.

Nicely done. Jamieson bashes the hard length, over off. Bethell hops and gets on top of the bounce. He opens the bat face to beat the diving backward point fielder to his right and comes back for the second run.

In the channel, on a length. Jacob lets it through to the keeper.

Smith starts with a beauty! In that testing corridor of uncertainty. Wobble seam ball, on a length. Bethell pushes out in front but the ball moves away with the slope to beat the bat.

Fuller and angled in, on middle and leg. Bethell's head falls over a bit as he knocks it to mid on.

End of a testing first over from Smith, a maiden. A bit fuller now, around off. Bethell shows the full face of the bat but the ball drops off the outer half beside the strip on the off side. Jacob is keen for a single but Nathan gets to the ball quickly and cuts it off.

Serves it full, around off. Duckett leans into the drive nicely and plays it all along the ground through covers. Nathan Smith goes after it and cuts it off. Two runs taken.

Nipping back in, on a slightly back of a length, on middle and leg. Duckett shapes up to turn it square on the leg side but is beaten on the inside edge and gets hit on the thigh pad.

Bowled by going wide on the crease, fuller and at the sticks. Duckett hangs low and defends it watchfully.

Keeps the stumps in play but this is on a good length. Duckett keeps it out from the crease.

Oh, that took off. This will put the seed of doubt in the minds of these two batters. For the most part, the ball has stayed relatively low so far, but this one has kicked up sharply. On a hard length, over off. This rears up as Ben tries to fend it down. It dribbles off the shoulder of the blade towards gully.

Back to bowling it full, on middle, Duckett blocks it off by getting his bat out in front.

This is on a length, across the off stump. Duckett tries to cover the line but the ball leaves him to catch the outer half and it dribbles to gully.

Nearly chopped it back onto the stumps! Just around the line of the off pole, on a nagging length. Duckett hangs back for the block but the ball jags back in to catch the inside edge. It catches Ben on the thigh before deflecting wide of square leg.

Going away, on a good length. Bethell shoulders arms.

Bowled full and wide on off, but Duckett can not cash in. This swings away a bit and Ben attempts the cover drive but one hand comes off the bat handle. It goes wide of cover and the batters cross over.

Dishes it out on a length, in the channel, Gay shoulders arms.

OUT! CAUGHT! Kyle Jamieson gets his radar right, and more than anything, the edge carries to the slip cordon. Jamieson hurls it on a back of a length, angled in at the off stump. Emilio Gay gets on his toes and presents a straight bat for the block. The ball angles in before straightening off the deck to catch the outside edge. It dies on Daryl Mitchell at first slip but he gets down on a knee and gets his hands out in front to take the catch above the ground. England lose their first wicket for 16.

Jamieson pushes the length up and finds a hint of away shape. Bethell resists the tempation of going for the drive and makes the leave.

Drags the length back, on off. Bethell gets on his toes and rides the bounce nicely. He punches it through covers but the ball does not have enough legs to reach the fence. It is hauled in by a couple of fielders giving chase. Jacob opens his account with a couple of runs.

Beaten! Closer to the off stump, on the shorter side. Bethell has a slight poke at the delivery before withdrawing his bat. The ball goes away off the deck after pitching to beat Jacob on the outside edge.

Shaping back into the pads slightly, on a length. Duckett brings his wrists into play and works it to the right of deep fine leg for a couple of runs.

Going away and the length stays full, Duckett strides to the pitch of the ball but mistimes the drive towards mid off as the bat turns in his hand.

Lands it on a good length, a bit too wide and Duckett offers no shot.

Hits the top of off, does Henry, Duckett stays back and dabs it to backward point with an angled bat face.

Keeps it around the top of off pole. Ben taps it off the back foot to the right of the bowler.

Cutting back in sharply off the surface, on a good length, on middle. Ben hurriedly nurdles it behind square leg and retains the strike with a single.

FOUR! Fine shot. Angled into the left-hander by Jamieson, a bit too full, in line with the off stump. Gay leans forward and presents the full face of the bat. Plays the drive with a high elbow past the bowler's left and it races away.

Good comeback! More like it by Jamieson. Kyle hurls it on a good length, outside the off stump. Gay is drawn into the stroke as he pushes a bit away from his body. The ball whistles past the outside edge.

That kept low. Bowled a bit into the surface, outside off. Emilio shapes up for the cut but the ball does not rise as much as the left-hander expected. Chops it down beside the strip on the off side off an inside edge.

Edged, but it does not carry! Kyle brings the ball back into the left-hander, on a good length, on off and middle. Emilio walks across to make use of the angle and clip it away on the leg side with a closed bat face. He is squared up as the ball lands and straightens to graze the outside edge and it lands well in front of first slip.

Serves it full, just outside the off stump. Duckett presses onto the front foot for the drive. The bat turns in his hand and he mistimes it to cover.

FOUR! Easy pickings. Henry goes searching for the swing but ends up delivering a juicy half-volley, on off. Duckett is quick to transfer his weight onto the front foot and cracks the drive to the left of cover for his first boundary.

Angled in and then nipping away a touch, on a back of a length, on the off stump. Gay is opened up as he leans across and brings the bat out in front. Gets it off the outer half to point.

In the channel on off, bowled into the surface. Emilio leaves it alone.

Jamieson is yet to get his radar right. This is well wide on off, on a good length. Gay offers no shot.

Jamieson bashes the hard length and gets the ball to jag back in sharply but it drifts down leg. Gay walks inside the line and lets it pass.

First sign of the lack of pace and bounce as early as the first ball. Angling across off, on a length. Duckett lets it be. The ball does not rise at all and goes towards the keeper on a bounce.

Henry begins with a maiden. Matt attacks the stumps with a good-length ball. Duckett stays on the back foot and stabs it down watchfully on the off side.
