The first thing that strikes you when you see Hamish Marshall is how identical the two brothers look, James and Hamish. Well, they are identical twin brothers, need to look the same! James Marshall has played both as an opener and a middle order player at the first class level, for his team Northern Districts. Usually he has been a big success as an opener, but played in his first Test against South Africa as a middle order batsman, and managed to score a 40 in the only inning that he got to bat in.

He then scored a fifty in his second Test – against Bangladesh – but the knock that made everyone sit up and take notice was his century in a home Test against the might of the Aussies, batting at number three in 2005. Surprisingly, his debut in the ODIs came much later – three years after his Test – in 2003, against Pakistan and he hit a fifty in his very first match to guide his team to a total of 291. Unfortunately his team lost. At the county level, he has played for Gloucestershire in the 2007-08, after refusing a central contract with the New Zealand because he wanted to play in England as a local player.

James Marshall and Hamish Marshall became the second set of twins to play Test cricket together, after Steve and Mark Waugh.
