About Innocent Kaia
Innocent Kaia was born on 10th August 1992 in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. The right-handed batter played cricket at a junior level and never really stood out. It was only after he crossed 20 that his name started popping up around the domestic circuit. He was drafted into the Southern Rocks squad for the 2013-14 domestic season.
Towards the end of 2013, Kaia made his List A debut for Southern Rocks in the Pro50 Championship at the age of 21. He did not have a good outing with the bat taking a long time to settle in. The start of the following year saw him make his First Class debut in the Logan Cup against Mashonaland where he made a wonderful 80 in the second innings and even bowled a bit in the game, taking a solitary wicket.
A few years later, in 2017, he made his T20 debut in the Africa T20 Cup against KwaZulu-Natal Inland. He continued playing at the domestic level for several years without getting an opportunity to represent his country. He finally got his opportunity in 2021, when he was drafted into the national squad to tour Ireland and Scotland.
Kaia made his T20I debut against Scotland but did not do much to make an impression. In 2022, he made his ODI debut against Afghanistan and scored 39 runs, but at a dismal strike rate of just 50. Later in the same year, he got his maiden ODI century against Bangladesh playing in a mature fashion. Age may not be on his side, but he has made an impact in his short international career, and he has much more to offer.
