Michael Yardy Players Stats

A slow left-arm spinner and a solid, left-handed batsman, Michael Yardy has been a major player in the English domestic cricket scene for several years. He made his first-class debut for Sussex in 1999, but did not see much success, or many matches, until the tail-end of 2004 when his form began to pick up. He had a phenomenal 2005 domestic season and scored a first-class double century for Sussex against tourists Bangladesh.

Yardy was picked by the England A side for a tour of the West Indies and made his international debut against Pakistan in both ODIs and T20s in 2006. The leftie was also considered for the England team during the Champions Trophy, picked as a bowling all-rounder. The tournament was not a success for him and he was subsequently dropped from the side. He was again selected a few years later for the 2010 T20 World Cup, but did not make any headlines with his performances. Nonetheless, the Sussex captain was picked for the ODI series against Bangladesh and Australia that year and against the latter he scored his maiden ODI half-century, perhaps an indication of his coming-of-age in the international arena. He was also part of England’s 2011 World Cup squad, but flew home before the quarter-finals citing depression as the reason.
