About Poonam Yadav
As a leg-spinner, Poonam Yadav stands out with a googly like no one else in the women’s game. Over the years, she has bamboozled several batters and now it's time for her to turn up in the DC colours, showing her skills in the inaugural Women’s Premier League.
At a very young age, her father, Raghuveer Singh Yadav, who is a retired army officer, identified her talent and decided to shift to Agra in order to help her avail better facilities. He also motivated her during her tough times. She made her debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2007-08 season and kept being a strong performer in the team until her India call-up.
In 2013, she made her India debut and has not looked back since. She became a regular player in the team, considering the fact that she could bowl leg-spin, an art quite a rare thing in the women’s game. She was part of India’s historic run till the final at the 2017 ODI World Cup. She also played a crucial role in the side’s runners-up finish at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Currently, she holds the record for the second-highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is, which 98 scalps to her name in just 72 games. Her international performances, saw her get a gig with the Brisbane Heat as well. She joins Delhi Capitals with high hopes of bringing in a trophy in the inaugural WPL.
