Vidarbha will get Rs 3 crore whereas semi-finalists Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will get Rs 1 crore each.

On Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final, Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai beat Vidarbha by 169 runs to win the title for the 42nd time. As per the revisions made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2023, Mumbai will get Rs 5 crore. However, their prize money for winning the trophy doubled after the Maharashtra Cricket Association's (MCA) announcement.

The MCA said that they will award an additional amount of Rs 5 crore as prize money to Mumbai for winning the Ranji Trophy title after a long gap of eight years.

"MCA President Amol Kale and Apex Council has decided to double the Ranji Trophy prize money. The MCA will pay additional sum of Rs 5 crore to the winning Mumbai Ranji Trophy team. It has been a great year for the MCA as the association has won 7 titles and we have made it to knockout stage in all age groups in BCCI tournaments," the statement read.

Mumbai head coach praises MCA’s generous move

Mumbai head coach Omkar Salvi was left impressed by MCA's initiative which will prevent youngsters from focusing on franchise cricket and play the longest format of the game.

"For all the players, nowadays, there are very less institutions which provide jobs. For youngsters, there is also a lot of lure towards franchise cricket (where) there is also a lot of money. The BCCI is taking that step and raising that money along with that, the MCA taking that step forward to equal that amount is a great help for the players who don't have some jobs or some earnings," said Salvi.
