BAN vs SA: Mehidy Hasan Miraz's unbeaten 87 helps Bangladesh to take 81 run lead against South Africa in 1st Test

Mehidy Hasan Miraz's 87 runs unbeaten knock on Day 3 helped Bangladesh to take 81 run lead in the first Test match against South Africa before the day was called off due to bad light at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Hosts Bangladesh were trailing by 101 runs at the start of the day and the first session was not in their favour as they lost three early wickets. 

South Africa's Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers as he sent Mahmudul and Mushfiqur packing in a space of three balls. Soon after Rabada, Maharaj outsmarted Litton with one that gripped and turned. Bangladesh were trailing as they lost six wickets on 112/6. Debutant Jaker Ali and Mehidy Hasan stitched a partnership of 138 runs for the seventh wicket. Jaker Ali struck his maiden Test fifty but was deceived by Maharaj. 

Earlier, after opting to bat Bangladesh got bundled out on just 106 runs where Mahmudul Hasan Joy was the only batter to go past 20. He scored 30 runs and South Africa's Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj and Wiaan Mulder picked three wickets each and Dane Piedt got one. 

While chasing106 runs, South Africa scored 308 runs where Kyle Verreynne played a knock of 114 runs and Wiaan Mulder smashed 54 runs. Bangladesh's Taijul Islam was the highest wicket-taker with five scalps conceding 122 runs in 36 overs. Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked 3 and 2 wickets respectively. 

Bangladesh are yet to win a Test match against the Proteas, the hosts will be looking to create history by winning this Test match. Bangladesh recently registered a maiden Test series win against Pakistan. If Bangladesh need to win this Test match they have to take a lead of at least 150 runs.
