Journalist Boria Majumdar has been banned by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for two years over 'threatening and intimidating' messages to India's veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha. In a letter addressed by BCCI's interim CEO Hemang Amin, all state boards have been informed about the ban.
The decision was taken by the three-member committee comprising of BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal and Councillor Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.
In the letter accessed by Sports Tak, here are the sanctions Majumdar will face -
“The BCCI Committee considered the submissions by both Mr Saha and Mr Majumdar and concluded that the actions by Mr Majumdar were indeed in the nature of threat and intimidation. The BCCI Committee recommended the following sanctions to the Apex Council of BCCI. The Apex Council of BCCI agreed with the recommendations of the BCCI Committee and imposed the following sanctions:
i. 2 (two) year ban on getting any accreditation as a member of the press in any of the cricket matches (domestic and international) in India.
ii. 2 (two) year ban on getting any interview with any registered players in India.
iii. 2 (two) year ban on access to any of BCCI and members associations owned cricket facilities.”
Saha, who was dropped from the India's Test squad from the ongoing Sri Lanka , had taken to Twitter on February 23 to accuse that one "respected" journalist took an aggressive tone after his refusal to grant him an interview. "After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so-called 'Respected' journalist! This is where the journalism has gone," Saha had tweeted.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the BCCI got in touch with Saha and decided to constitute the above mentioned three-member committee to investigate the matter. The WhatsApp messages sent by the journalist had a threatening tone, "You did not call. Never again will I interview you. I don't take insults kindly. And I will remember this."
