Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has recently been the central point of multiple discussions after the veteran cricketer revealed some sensational conversations that he previously had with Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly. It is important to mention that previously, Saha was dropped from the Indian Test team which will be involved in a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, in March.
Breach of Central Contract clause
In a situation like this, it is believed that the BCCI will ask Saha about his recent comments. It is also understood that the 37-year-old Indian wicketkeeper’s comments are in violation of protocols which a centrally contracted cricketer has to follow. It is important to mention that the Bengal-born wicketkeeper has a Group B contract with an annual retainership of Rs 3 crore and the annual central contracts also have a clause 6.3 and it is understood that Saha has violated this particular clause.
"Player shall not make any comments about the game, officials, incidents that happened in the game, use of technology, selection matters or any other matter related to the game which is in opinion of the BCCI is adverse to and /or not in the interest of the game, team or BCCI in any media...." the clause 6.3 of players' central contract states.
BCCI's stand
BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal also spoke on the matter and according to him the BCCI “could ask Wriddhiman as to how he spoke on selection matters being a centrally contracted cricketer.”
"Yes, there is a possibility that BCCI could ask Wriddhiman as to how he spoke on selection matters being a centrally contracted cricketer," Arun Dhumal was quoted while talking to news agency PTI.
"As far as the president is concerned, he had tried to motivate him. The board might like to know what made him go public with his dressing room conversations with coach Dravid." So will BCCI serve a formal showcause notice or ask him verbally about the issue? "We haven't yet decided on the matter. We are all busy but a call will be taken on a few days," Dhumal further added.
