England Test captain Ben Stokes has made a quick recovery from a hamstring injury, returning to training just two weeks after suffering the setback. The all-rounder was seen batting in the nets at Old Trafford, Manchester, where the first Test against Sri Lanka is currently underway.
Ben Stokes Returns to the Nets After Hamstring Injury
Stokes sustained the injury during the recent The Hundred League. While playing for the Northern Superchargers against the Manchester Originals, he pulled his hamstring while attempting a quick single. The injury forced him off the field, requiring assistance to walk.
Following the hamstring injury, Stokes underwent scans that confirmed the severity of the issue. The scans revealed that he had suffered a significant injury, ruling him out of not only the Test series against Sri Lanka but also the entire English summer. Despite being unable to play, Stokes remained with the team in the dressing room. He actively contributed to the team's strategy, sharing his insights and observations with the players and coaching staff.
However, a surprise development occurred on the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka. Stokes was spotted batting in the nets, showcasing his trademark elegant drives. The left-hander appeared to be in good form, suggesting a potential return to action in the near future.

Ollie Pope Leads England in Stokes' Absence
With Ben Stokes sidelined due to injury, Ollie Pope has taken on the captaincy duties for England in the ongoing Test series. Pope has demonstrated solid leadership skills, and England are currently in a strong position to win the first Test and take a 1-0 lead in the series. England's performance has been impressive, with both their batting and bowling units contributing significantly. They successfully bowled out Sri Lanka for 236 runs in the first innings and then responded with a strong total of 358 runs. In the second innings, England's bowlers have made early inroads, taking five quick wickets and aiming to wrap up Sri Lanka's innings as soon as possible. This will allow them to chase down the target and secure a victory.
