Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan on August 24 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. After hanging his boots, Dhawan hopes that his son Zoraver who he has not met for a long time gets to know about the news.
“Zoravar is 11 now. I hope he gets to know about my retirement and all about my cricket journey. But more than as a cricketer, I would like for Zoraver to remember me as a good human being who does good deeds and brings positivity to people around him,” Dhawan told Hindustan Times in an interview.
Dhawan’s son Zoraver is living with his ex-wife Ayesha Mukherjee. Dhawan has often talked about how tough it is to stay away from his son and get robbed of the opportunity to see him grow.
Dhawan’s emotional post for Zoravar last year
Last year, the 38-year-old wished his son a happy birthday on Instagram in an emotional post with an old screenshot of their video call.
“It’s been a year since I saw you in person, and now, for almost three months, I’ve been blocked from everywhere so Posting the same picture to wish you, my boy, a very Happy Birthday,” the southpaw wrote.

“Even if I can’t connect with you directly, I connect with you through Telepathy. I am so proud of you, and I know you’re doing great and growing up nicely.
“Papa always misses you and loves you. He’s always positive, waiting with a smile for the time when we will meet again by the Grace of God. Be naughty but not destructive, be a giver, be humble, compassionate, patient, and strong.
“Despite not seeing you, I write you messages almost every day, asking about your well-being and daily life, sharing what I’m doing and what’s new in my life.”
Dhawan’s last game for India
Dhawan made his last appearance in international cricket in December 2022 against Bangladesh. He was replaced by Shubman Gill at the top of the order in white-ball games.
