Former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath has sounded the alarm bells for superstar India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has had a long tryst with injuries. After spending a considerable amount of time in rehabilitation after undergoing back surgery, Bumrah marked his return to cricket last year. Since his return, Bumrah has played the Asia Cup, the World Cup, the Test series against South Africa and the home Test series against England.

Currently, Bumrah is gearing up to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a tournament that the right-arm fast bowler missed entirely last season due to injury. After the conclusion of the IPL, Bumrah is certain to feature in India's playing XI in the T20 World Cup.

Glenn McGrath on Jasprit Bumrah

With so much cricket happening, McGrath has urged Bumrah to take some time off, even spend a season away from the sport to manage his workload and ensure that he keeps injuries at bay, especially with his unconventional action.

"The last two strides that he takes, he just powers into the crease. Thus, his momentum increases, and that's where he gets the pace," McGrath said during an interaction with the media here at the MRF Pace Foundation.

"Someone like Bumrah needs an off-season because he puts so much into every ball. With so much extensive effort, he needs a break. If he keeps playing, the amount of pressure created given the bowling action he has, he is bound to get injured, which he has in the past," said the legendary pacer.

Jasprit Bumrah is the world's best

Recently, Bumrah became the first bowler ever to secure the No.1 ranking in all three formats of the game. The rankings were just a testament to Bumrah's skillset and match-winning ability. The right-arm speedster is arguably the best bowler in the world currently and his exploits are not just confined to one format of the game.
