Former Indian batter Navjot Singh Sidhu will make his return to the commentary box after almost 10 years. Navjot Singh Sindhu will be seen doing the commentary on March 22 in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai.
An iconic voice in Indian cricket
Navjot Singh Sidhu has been one of the iconic voices in Indian Cricket. He started his career with English commentary and is very popular for his Hindi commentary, especially his quirky one-liners. Sidhu has worked with several broadcasting channels and he has also been part of the many tours of the Indian team as a commentator. He joined politics in 2004 and later opted out of cricket commentary duties.
Sidhu’s journey as a commentator
Navjot Singh Sidhu started his commentary career with India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2001 and received instant fame because of his unique style and his charismatic way of speaking. His ability to engage audiences during the match with his unique style made him a fan-favourite. His contribution to the commentary has been incredible and sometimes he has been in the controversy due to his one-liners.
Sidhu’s cricket career
Navjot Singh Sidhu was one of the stylish batters during his cricketing days. He was the opening batter for India and captivated fans with his stroke-making ability. Sidhu's cricket career lasted for 15 years from 1983 to 1998. He represented the national team in a total of 187 international matches and scored 7,615 international runs.
In 51 Tests, Sindhu scored 3,202 runs with the help of 15 half-centuries and nine tons. In 136 ODIs, the right-handed batter amassed 4,413 runs with the help of six tons and 33 half-centuries.
