The Legends League Cricket is set to announce its return for a second season in September 2022 after the success of the first season. The league is set to feature privately-owned franchises that would play in a four-team format. The League has invited leading International Cricket Franchisees and Corporates for buying 4 teams that would play in September 2022.
The franchise model will be based on the conventional Franchisee T20 League formats like the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and many more. The franchise owners will have to pay annual franchise fees for 10 years before they would own the teams in perpetuity. The teams would make revenue through the central pool and team sponsorships.
"We aim to transform Legends cricket through the Club series format. LLC has already established a great business opportunity around Legends Cricket with the season 1. We now invite partnerships with leading Cricket Franchisees and Corporates having interest in business of Cricket. We already have seen warm responses from Leading existing Club Franchisees of multiple Country Board’s owned T20 Leagues. Deep interests from vanguards partnering with the League, demonstrate the confidence in our product and the strength of our League to deliver world class product," said co-Founder and CEO of Legends League Cricket, Raman Raheja.
LLC saw a successful launch with the Tri-Nation format earlier in January 2022. The inaugural edition of the highly successful Legends League Cricket reached a cumulative audience of 703 million people through TV, digital-social space and traditional media outlets. As per a report by YouGov Sport, Sponsors enjoyed a media evaluation (visibility) of about ₹403 Crores. Winners of the first edition of World Giants topped the valuation chart with Rs 49.5 Crores worth of sponsorship exposure followed by Asia Lions (Rs 47.6 Crores) and India Maharajas (Rs 37.6 Crores).
“The new format would make LLC bigger, better and more exciting. With a pool of 100 Legends and 4 teams in season 1, we expect the Club Series format to be a big success given the fan following of the Cricket Legends,” said Ravi Shastri, Commissioner of the League.
The success of the LLC was also appreciated by former cricketers who participated in the tournament. Former Australian pacer Brett Lee said, “This would be great. I would absolutely love to be part of the Franchise format and play some good Cricket in Season 2 of Legends league Cricket.”
Harbhajan Singh, who missed the first season after contracting Covid-19, said, “Missed Season 1 due to Covid but now would love to be part of the Season 2 in September. Let’s do it”
