Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre set a world record for the youngest player to score 150+ in List A cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Nagaland. Earlier, India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal holds the record.

Mhatre who is 17 years and 168 days old smashed 11 sixes and 15 fours to make 181 off only 117 balls while powering his side to a mammoth 403 for seven in their 50 overs against Nagaland. Earlier Yashasvi Jaiswal made the record when he was 17 years and 291 days when he achieved the feat while playing for Mumbai against Jharkhand in 2019.

Mhatre was also the part of Irani Cup-winning Mumbai squad that defeated the Rest of India to win the trophy after a gap of 27 years in October. He scored 71-ball 52 in his Ranji Trophy debut but Mumbai lost the season opener to Baroda in an away game.

In a strong response to their opening defeat in the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai's defending champions relied on Mhatre’s exceptional knock of 176 off 232 deliveries. His innings, featuring 22 boundaries and four sixes, powered Mumbai to a commanding nine-wicket victory over Maharashtra.

After quiet performances against Tripura and Odisha, Mhatre bounced back with his second first-class century, scoring 116 off 149 balls, laced with 12 fours and three sixes, against Services. His consistency earned him a spot in India’s squad for the U-19 Asia Cup.

Continuing his fine run, the right-hander struck two crucial half-centuries (54 and an unbeaten 67) in matches against Japan and the UAE. However, he couldn’t make an impact in the tournament final, falling for a single-digit score as India lost to Bangladesh.

Returning to Mumbai’s domestic campaign after missing their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph, Mhatre impressed in the premier 50-over competition with a solid 78 in a high-scoring encounter against Karnataka
