New Zealand called of their tour of Pakistan just before the first ODI of the limited overs series citing security concerns. The New Zealand contingent has reached home safely but the controversies and problems for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have not taken rest. Now, as per reports, the security agencies hired by New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) have burned a hole in PCB's pocket. Not just their hiring fees, but there is an outstanding Rs 27 lakh biryani bill that has been left behind.
The total number of people deployed in New Zealand contingent's security included five SPs and 500 over SSPs. This number does not even include the Pakistan Army in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. A report by Anandabazar Patrika says that the security personnel were served biryani twice in a day which has resulted in a hefty bill.
The decision to cancel the tour even before playing one game has resulted into a great loss for PCB and left the new chairman Ramiz Raja fuming. This tour was supposed to mark the Blackcaps return to Pakistan after a long wait of 17 years.
Following NZC, England Cricket Board (ECB) has also called of both men and women's tour of Pakistan. Not only the cancellations have also robbed
Pakistan of necessary match practice ahead of T20 World Cup next month in UAE but cost PCB a major source of revenue. Pakistan begin their campaign on October 24 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in a bid to register their first win against India in World Cup events.
