He had to pay 4.75 crores as alimony.

When Yuzvendra Chahal appeared in a Mumbai family court to hear his joint divorce plea with choreographer Dhanashree Verma, his clothing made a message. The leg-spinner was sporting a personalized T-shirt that read, 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy'. On Thursday, March 20, the Bandra Family Court granted a divorce to Chahal and his now ex-wife. The 34-year-old cricket player agreed with the terms of the accord, which called for him to give Dhanashree Verma, 28, Rs 4.75 crore in alimony. He made an initial payment of Rs 2.37 crore, with the remaining sum due upon the issuance of the divorce decision.

The term "be your own sugar daddy" is frequently used to describe someone who is financially independent and does not depend on another person for gifts or financial support. After being married in 2020, Chahal and Dhanashree had been living apart since June 2022. On February 5, the couple entered a plea for divorce by mutual consent.

However, citing limited compliance with the conditions of the divorce settlement, including the unpaid alimony, the family court first declined to waive the six-month statutory cooling-off period. After that, Chahal and Dhanashree jointly petitioned the Bombay High Court for an extension of the cooling-off period.

The High Court then waived the six-month cooling-off period and ordered the family court to make a decision on the divorce plea by Thursday. Early in 2024, rumours started to circulate that Chahal and Dhanashree were no longer together. On social media, the cricket player and his ex-wife deleted pictures of themselves together. They both, however, kept quiet about the rumours and kept sharing cryptic posts.

Dhanashree Verma's family attorney acknowledged to India Today in February that the couple had been living apart and that a joint request for divorce had been filed. Chahal was also seen supporting the Indian cricket team during the Champions Trophy final in Dubai by sitting next to RJ Mahvash.

Before the Punjab Kings' IPL 2025 opener against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 25, the leg-spinner will return to the team. For 18 crore, Punjab purchased Chahal. He will join coach Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer in what should be an exciting team.
