Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene believes that featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 without legendary speedster Jasprrit Bumrah will be a challenge for the five-time champions. He revealed that Bumrah who is currently on the road to recovery is doing well and will join the squad soon.
IPL 2025 is scheduled to start from March 22, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the tournament's opener. MI will start their IPL campaign against another five-time champions Chennai Super Kings on March 23 at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
"[Bumrah] has just started his progress. We have to wait and see what their [BCCI medical team] feedback is on him," Jayawardene said. "At the moment, everything is going well. But, obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis. He is in good spirits. Not having him is a challenge. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and he has been a fantastic pro for us for many years" said Mahela Jayawardene in a press conference.
"We'll have to wait or find an opportunity for someone else to step up. That's how I see it. It gives us an element of trying a few things and see how things work. The early part of the season allows us to do that."
Bumrah who made his IPL debut in 2013 has represented only MI, he picked up 165 wickets in 133 matches till IPL 2024. The speedster missed only one IPL season in 2023 due to a back injury.
