Former Pakistan batting all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez made the most of the two overs allotted to every bowler in a T10 League when he took six wickets on the opening day of the inaugural edition of the Zim-Afro T10 League in Zimbabwe. In the match between Johannesburg Buffaloes and Bulawayo Braves, the Braves needed just 106 runs for the win and had a very bright start to the game before the 'Professor' entered the fray.

Hafeez came in to bowl and stunned the opponents with a triple wicket maiden in his first over. He was brought back in the attack and once more was among the wickets. He got three more wickets in his second over despite being hit for a four in the first ball. This boundary was the only run-scoring ball in his spell. He got the scalps of Zimbabwean batter Ryan Burl on the very next ball, In doing so, Hafeez broke all possible T10 cricket records with a return of 2-1-4-6.

His contributions meant that Hafeez's side secured an impressive 10-run victory.

Hafeez to be Pakistan's new chief selector?

More recently, reports in the media suggested that Hafeez is a front-runner to become the national team’s chief selector after the conclusion of the team’s ongoing Sri Lanka tour.

According to sources, Hafeez is favoured by the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board's Cricket Management Committee (CMC) Zaka Ashraf, to be appointed as the chief selector — a post that is lying vacant after the previous CMC was dissolved in June.

"Zaka met with former captain, Rashid Latif and Hafeez and spoke to them about becoming chief selector. Rashid was not keen on the job but Hafeez (has) expressed his availability for the job,” the source told PTI.

"Rashid was more interested in working on anti-corruption issues. Hafeez who played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring last year, made it clear that he would like the challenge of working as the chief selector," the source added.
