The second season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) is just one day away, and fans are anticipating how their favourite franchise will go about their business in this edition of the tournament.

 

The last season featured many memorable performances by star players. Here are the five top run-scorers and wicket-takers of the 2023 season.


Five top run-getters

 

Meg Lanning - 345 runs

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) skipper Meg Lanning was the leading run-scorer of last year's edition. She scored 345 runs in nine matches.

 

Nat Sciver-Brunt - 332 runs

The English batter Nat Sciver-Brunt was one of the key players in the Mumbai Indians (MI) Women. She scored 332 runs in ten matches for the franchise in 2023. She won the 'player of the match' in the final where she scored 60 against DC.

 

Tahlia McGrath - 302 runs

In the WPL 2023, Australia sensation Tahlia McGrath played for the UP Warriorz and showed her amazing consistency in the tournament. McGrath played nine matches and scored 302 runs for the franchise.

 

Harmanpreet Kaur - 281 runs

MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur is known for her hard-hitting ability and great captaincy, which she proved after making MI win during the last season of the WPL. With the bat, Kaur scored 281 runs in ten matches for the franchise.

 

Hayley Mathews - 271 runs

Playing for the MI, West Indies all-rounder Hayley Mathews showed her batting skills throughout the tournament last year. Mathews scored 271 runs in ten games for her franchise.

 

Five top wicket-takers

 

Hayley Mathews - 16 wickets

Mathews not only contributed with the bat but also was the leading wicket-taker of the 2023 WPL season. In ten matches, the spinner took 16 wickets. She was truly one of the main reasons MI won the title as she also won the ‘player of the tournament’ award for her all-round performance.

 

Sophie Ecclestone - 16 wickets

England spinner Sophie Ecclestone was absolutely brilliant with the ball in last year's edition. Playing for the UPW, she took 16 wickets in nine matches for the franchise.

 

Issy Wong - 15 wickets

England bowler Issy Wong played for MI in last year's edition. The fast bowler had a very good tournament as she picked up 15 wickets in ten matches for the franchise.

 

Amelia Kerr - 15 wickets

New Zealand bowler Amelia Kerr played for MI in last year's edition and had an impressive tournament. The spinner went on to take 15 wickets in 10 matches for the franchise.

 

Saika Ishaque - 15 wickets

Indian bowler Saika Ishaque played for MI in last year's edition and was the best Indian bowler of the tournament. The spinner went on to take 15 wickets in 10 matches for the glitzy tournament.
