Aberdeen will now face Celtic in next Saturday’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park.

Aberdeen’s dismal end to the Premiership season spiraled further out of control on Saturday, as a chaotic incident saw full-back Jack MacKenzie struck by a seat thrown from the stands allegedly by one of his own supporters. The shocking event overshadowed a crucial match at Tannadice, where the Dons were hoping to secure fourth place in the league with a draw against Dundee United.

On-Field collapse adds to woes

The match began promisingly for Aberdeen, with Jeppe Okkels putting them ahead early. However, their advantage quickly crumbled as Declan Gallagher leveled for United and Sam Dalby converted a penalty, sealing a 2-1 victory for the home side.

The result allowed Dundee United to leapfrog Aberdeen into fourth place, deepening the Dons’ struggles as they head into next weekend’s Scottish Cup final against a formidable Celtic side who recently thrashed them 5-1.

Violence mars final whistle

The mood turned from disappointment to disbelief after the full-time whistle. Jack MacKenzie, 24, who had not featured in the match, was struck in the face by a seat reportedly launched from the away end, leaving him bleeding heavily. The young defender required immediate medical treatment and was escorted off the pitch for stitches.

Medical personnel rushed to his aid, while jubilant Dundee United fans stormed the field to celebrate their team's dramatic comeback and newly earned Europa League qualifying spot.

Manager condemns “disgraceful” act

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin condemned the incident in a post-match interview with BBC Scotland, calling it “a disgrace.”

I deliberately took myself off the pitch as quickly as I could because we’ve had previous with the Aberdeen supporters in the past, Goodwin said.

I’m really disappointed to hear young Jack has been hit by an object thrown by his own supporters. He’s inside having stitches now—it's an absolute disgrace.

It’s probably taken something as serious as this to happen for the authorities to finally step in and do something about it to identify these idiots who let down a really good club.

A glimmer of hope

Despite the turmoil, Aberdeen still have one final opportunity to salvage their season. A victory over Celtic in next Saturday’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park would secure a Europa League play-off berth though it would require a remarkable turnaround in form.
