The rising Indian women's doubles team, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, delivered a stunning performance to defeat the world number two duo, Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee of South Korea, advancing to the quarterfinals at the Singapore Open.
Previously, the Indian duo had been defeated by the Korean pair in the pre-quarterfinals of the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. During their recent match, the Baek-Lee pair exhibited numerous errors, allowing Treesa and Gayatri to dominate early, taking an 18-9 lead and winning the first game easily. However, the Indians made several unforced errors in the second game, allowing the Koreans to make a comeback. The match progressed to a decisive third game where both teams exchanged powerful smashes, tied at 8-all, until the Indian duo gained a slight two-point advantage at the final mid-game break. Maintaining their aggressive play, Treesa and Gayatri scored six consecutive points to lead 16-9 and clinched a memorable victory.
