Jon Jones is expected to take on Tom Aspinall in a UFC Heavyweight Title unification fight.

The speculations about a potential Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall fight have never died down and following UFC CEO Dana White's claim that the fight is all but done, fighter-turned-analyst Chael Sonnen has a groundbreaking update about the fight. After making a successful return at UFC 309, the undisputed Heavyweight champion Jones is pitted to face the interim champion, Aspinall. The fight makes all the sense in the world but considering the clout Bones has as a unanimous GOAT, he will dictate the terms of the fight.

Chael Sonnen Provides Update On Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall Fight

After leaving Tom Aspinall in limbo for months, Jones has apparently accepted to take on the Englishman. Chael Sonnen has claimed to bring forth an "inside information" and revealed the development for which the fans eagerly waited.

“Alex Pereira was one of the most interesting men we have in our sport because he was going to be used as a pawn on the chessboard to get Aspinall vs. Jones together,” Sonnen told Submission Radio recently. “If Jon Jones kept holding out, that opportunity was merely going to slot to Alex Pereira. Pereira vs. Aspinall is one hell of a consolation prize if you can’t get Jones vs. Aspinall. ...

“They got a deal done with Jon Jones and Aspinall, at least verbally, the night before — this is inside information, you will not have heard this story anywhere else — they got a deal done verbally the night before Pereira vs. Ankalaev.”

Sonnen's assertions align with UFC CEO Dana White's statement to TNT Sports that the fight is "just a matter of when now, getting it signed and done" and Aspinall's "very optimistic" outlook on the fight. Despite all of this hope, nothing has been made official, maybe because, according to rumors, Jones needs six months to prepare for the fight. According to Sonnen, Jones basically backed himself into a corner.
