CSK went full throttle in an attempt to secure the services of one of the hottest commodities in world cricket at the moment - Ben Stokes.
Chennai's fended off their competitors and secured the services of arguably one of the greatest all-rounders in contemporary cricket.
Stokes came with a whopping price tag as the four-time champions forked out Rs 16.25 crore for the English all-rounder.
CSK buying Stokes is also interesting because the franchise has been seeking a successor to their talisman - MS Dhoni.
With Dhoni in the twilight of his playing career with CSK, the franchise needs an astute leader, and that is where Stokes fits in perfectly.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan after the auction said, "captaincy option is there but it’s a call MS will take with time."
Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain before IPL 2022 season began but later took up the duties.
CSK lost 10 matches in IPL 2022 and finished 9th on the points table.
