France enter the 2022 FIFA World Cup as defending champion and one of the favourites to win the trophy.

But they were hit by injuries, with both Ngolo Kante and Paul Pogba ruled out of the competition.

The two of them were considered as the two best midfielders in the 2018 World Cup, which was won by France.

In addition to them, Golden Ball winner Luka Modric shone in the half-spaces with his deft touches.

Kevin de Bruyne of Belgium created 15 chances from open play – the most of any player at the World Cup.

Even Brazil's Philippe Coutinho shone, finishing the tournament with two goals, two assists and 13 chances created.

Modric was also awarded the best player of the tournament i.e the Golden ball.

This time around, France have put their faith in the younger midfielders, especially Aurelin Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.

Despite losing trophy, Modric tops passing list at 2018 FIFA World Cup
