Week 9 clash between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs lived up to its billing, as Josh Allen led his team to a statement win that snapped the Chiefs’ three-game winning streak. In what has become one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries, Allen once again proved his mettle, outdueling Patrick Mahomes in a contest filled with big plays, momentum swings, and playoff-like intensity.
Allen and the Bills start strong
The Bills wasted no time asserting dominance. Their opening drive spanned 84 yards over 11 plays, capped off with James Cook’s powerful rushes that set the tone early. Buffalo struck first, taking a 7-0 lead and putting pressure on Mahomes to respond.
However, the Chiefs’ offense struggled to find rhythm early on. Their first drive ended in a quick three-and-out, giving the Bills control of the pace. Mahomes, known for his comeback flair, eventually connected with Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy late in the first quarter, positioning Kansas City for a score. The drive concluded with a touchdown to tie things up 7-7 as the second quarter began.
Buffalo Bills’ offense outpaces Kansas City Chiefs
Once Kansas City briefly took the lead through a Harrison Butker field goal, Allen answered immediately. A spectacular 47-yard completion to Dalton Kincaid set up Buffalo’s second touchdown, flipping the momentum back to the Bills. From there, the home team began to pull away.
Allen’s leadership was on full display as he orchestrated another scoring drive, extending the lead to 21-10 before halftime. The Bills’ defense then held strong, forcing a turnover on downs that proved costly for Mahomes and company. Despite a late field goal by Butker trimming the deficit to 21-13 at the half, Buffalo clearly had the upper hand.
Patrick Mahomes fights back, but Josh Allen seals the deal
The second half opened with both offenses trying to establish control, but Buffalo’s defense tightened its grip. The Chiefs’ offensive line faltered under pressure, limiting Mahomes’ usual magic. Meanwhile, Allen capitalized on every opportunity, finding the end zone again to stretch the lead to 28-13.
Mahomes showed flashes of brilliance, connecting with Travis Kelce and Hollywood Brown for deep gains, eventually narrowing the score to 28-21 after a crucial two-point conversion. But with the game on the line, Mahomes’ final deep attempt was intercepted by Buffalo defender Maxwell Hairston — sealing the victory for the Bills.
