Story Highlights:

Vikings enter the Lions matchup with multiple starters ruled out and others listed as questionable.

Injury concerns add pressure as Minnesota hosts Detroit in a crucial Christmas Day showdown.

Minnesota Vikings face a must-win situation heading into their Christmas Day matchup against the Detroit Lions, but injuries continue to complicate their path. As the Vikings (7-8) prepare to host the Lions (8-7) at U.S. Bank Stadium on Thursday, Dec. 25, at 4:30 p.m. ET, the team has listed 10 players on its latest injury report, with several key contributors officially ruled out.

Vikings dealing with major offensive absences

Minnesota’s offense will be notably depleted against Detroit. Tight end T.J. Hockenson has been ruled out with a shoulder injury after missing practice entirely. Despite inconsistent production this season, Hockenson remained a vital part of the passing game, hauling in 51 receptions for 438 yards and three touchdowns.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy will also miss the contest due to a hand injury. His absence forces Minnesota Vikings to adjust their offensive approach, as McCarthy had started multiple games in 2025, throwing for 1,450 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The backfield takes another significant hit with Jordan Mason sidelined because of an ankle injury. Mason has been Minnesota’s most productive rusher this season, posting 664 yards and six touchdowns on 145 carries. Tight end Gavin Bartholomew (back) and center Ryan Kelly (concussion) are also unavailable, further limiting offensive depth.

Key players questionable or limited

Offensive tackle Brian O’Neill is listed as questionable with a heel injury after limited participation in practice. His availability could be pivotal, especially against a Lions defensive front that thrives on pressure.

Running back Aaron Jones is managing an ankle issue and practiced in a limited capacity. While he has not been ruled out, Jones’ status remains uncertain, adding more questions to Minnesota Vikings’ rushing rotation.

Defensive lineman Javon Hargrave, who has recorded 3.5 sacks and 45 tackles this season, is also limited with a thigh injury but could still be in line to play.

Positive signs ahead of kickoff

There is some encouraging news for Minnesota. Running back Ty Chandler (knee) and linebacker Eric Wilson (thumb) were full participants in practice and are expected to be available. Wilson’s presence is especially important after anchoring the defense with 95 tackles and 6.5 sacks this season.

Impact on the Vikings-Lions showdown

With multiple starters ruled out and others questionable, Minnesota Vikings will rely heavily on depth and execution against a Lions team battling for playoff positioning. How Minnesota navigates these injuries could ultimately determine the outcome of their season-defining clash.
