Trade rumors surrounding Myles Garrett have resurfaced, with the New England Patriots emerging as a potential suitor in the edge rusher market. However, despite growing buzz, the Cleveland Browns have made their stance abundantly clear.
Speaking at the NFL’s annual league meetings, Browns general manager Andrew Berry firmly dismissed any possibility of a blockbuster deal involving the star defender.
“Myles is a career Brown. He is one of the faces of our organization,” Berry said. “I think we’ve been very clear both past and present in terms of our feelings.
“I understand all the questions. I’ll be honest, I don’t really want to waste a ton more breath on the topic.”
Why New England Patriots interest still makes sense
Despite Cleveland’s strong public stance, the Patriots’ reported interest reflects a clear need. New England remains in the market for a top-tier edge rusher following roster changes this offseason.
The departure of K'Lavon Chaisson, who finished second on the team in sacks last season, has left a noticeable gap in the defensive unit. Adding a player of Myles Garrett’s caliber would immediately elevate their pass rush and defensive identity.
Contract situation fuels fresh rumors
The resurgence of trade speculation is not without context. Earlier this offseason, Garrett and Cleveland Browns agreed to a contract restructuring that deferred bonus payments until August. While not directly signaling a move, the adjustment reignited conversations around his long-term future.
Garrett had previously requested a trade last offseason before ultimately committing to Cleveland with a four-year, $160 million extension. That deal was widely seen as closing the door on any immediate departure.
Reality check: Deal remains unlikely
While the Patriots’ need and Garrett’s elite status make for a compelling narrative, the reality remains unchanged—Cleveland has no intention of moving its defensive cornerstone.
Berry’s comments underline the organization’s commitment to retaining Myles Garrett, positioning him as a foundational figure rather than a trade asset.
As speculation continues to circulate, the gap between rumor and reality appears significant. For now, Garrett remains firmly in Cleveland’s plans, leaving New England Patriots to explore other options in their search for defensive reinforcements.
