Their wide receiver Rashee Rice sustained a knee injury during the match.

The Kansas City Chiefs secured a 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in their Week 4 encounter but their celebrations were blown away after their wide receiver Rashee Rice sustained a knee injury. Initial reports suggest he may have torn his ACL, which could sideline him for the remainder of the season. An MRI is scheduled to assess the extent of the injury. Rice was carted off the field during the first half of Sunday’s 17-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers after an unfortunate collision. The injury occurred when quarterback Patrick Mahomes, attempting to tackle Chargers defensive back Kristian Fulton after an interception, accidentally struck Rice's knee.

How did the injury happen?

Rice went down after quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw an interception on a pass intended for Travis Kelce but accidentally dove into Rice's knee while attempting to tackle Chargers defensive back Kristian Fulton. Rice, who was injured when Mahomes accidentally hit his knee during a play, might have a torn ACL, according to news reports.

according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter "Rice might have suffered a torn ACL, a serious injury that would likely end his season prematurely. This news comes as a major blow to the Chiefs, as the young receiver had become an integral part of Mahomes’ offensive strategy".

Chiefs win

Head coach Andy Reid expressed hope for a positive outcome, though he acknowledged that the team isn’t expecting good news. Before the injury, Rice had established himself as Mahomes' primary target, leading the team with 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the first three games of the season. No other Chiefs player had reached double-digit catches at that point. Despite the setback, the Chiefs managed to secure the win, with Travis Kelce making a significant impact by recording 89 yards on seven catches. Xavier Worthy also contributed with a standout 54-yard touchdown reception. However, losing Rice for any length of time would be a substantial loss for the 4-0 Chiefs, as they rely heavily on his production in the passing game.

Coach Andy Reid spoke with CBS’s Tracy Wolfson on Rice's injury. Reid said “It’s not good,” stating things can go really bad from here. He also showed his support and solidarity with the player saying "I feel terrible for Rashee... we will hope for the best"

Chiefs who are eyeing a historic third consecutive super bowl this year despite the win would feel disheartened after losing Rice in the game.
