A potential new partnership may be brewing in Kansas City. Jeremiyah Love, one of college football’s most explosive running backs, has taken a significant step toward aligning his future with the Kansas City Chiefs.
After a standout campaign at Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, Love confirmed he formally met with Chiefs personnel at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine — and made no secret of his admiration for the team’s franchise quarterback.
A perfect fit for Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive needs
Love’s numbers from the 2025 NCAA season highlight why his name is generating serious draft intrigue. Across 12 games, he recorded nine carries of 20-plus yards and 39 rushes that gained at least 10 yards, averaging a remarkable 6.9 yards per attempt. His ability to create explosive plays stands in sharp contrast to Kansas City’s ground production last season.
In 17 games, the Chiefs managed just three runs of over 20 yards — only one of which came from a running back. The other long gains were produced by Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver Xavier Worthy, underscoring the team’s inconsistency in generating chunk yardage from the backfield.
Jeremiyah Love’s acceleration and field vision would immediately address that gap. His profile suggests not just a complementary piece, but a potential catalyst capable of reshaping how defenses approach Kansas City Chiefs’ offense.
“I'd love to play with him.”
Beyond scheme fit, Love’s excitement about possibly joining forces with Mahomes was unmistakable.
"It would mean everything to be paired with a great quarterback like him," Love told ESPN's Laura Rutledge. "I feel like he's one of the best quarterbacks to come through the game. He's still got a lot to prove. But hey, it's Patrick Mahomes. I'd love to play with him."
That statement signals more than admiration — it reflects a player eager to contribute immediately in a championship-caliber environment.
An underrated strength: Pass protection
While his highlight-reel runs command attention, Love emphasized a different dimension of his game that could prove equally valuable at the next level.
"I mean, nobody's really beat me in blocking," Jeremiyah Love continued. "Like, I pretty much dominated everybody just trying to rush me. I feel like that's underrated."
For a Chiefs offensive line that faced scrutiny at times, a running back capable of both explosive rushing and reliable pass protection could be invaluable.
With formal discussions underway and mutual interest apparent, Love’s path from South Bend to Kansas City Chiefs feels increasingly plausible.
