The NFL community is mourning the loss of former defensive tackle Arthur Jones also the elder brother of UFC legend Jon Jones, who passed away at the age of 39, the Baltimore Ravens announced on Friday. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Ravens remember their Super Bowl champion
Jones, who spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens from 2010 to 2013, was part of the squad that won Super Bowl XLVII. During his time in Baltimore, he played in 46 games, starting 20, and recorded 126 tackles and 8.5 sacks. Notably, in the 2013 Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers, Jones made two tackles, including a sack of quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta expressed his grief in a statement:
"We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing. Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others. He was kind, courteous and enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates and friends."
Career beyond Baltimore
After leaving Baltimore, Jones continued his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders, completing seven seasons in the league. A native of Rochester, New York, he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Syracuse University.
