Following a heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, the Kansas City Chiefs are making moves to fortify the offense around quarterback Patrick Mahomes. After right guard Trey Smith signed his franchise tag, a one-year contract for $23.4 million, the Chiefs signed left tackle Jaylon Moore in free agency on March 10. The former San Francisco 49ers starter has agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract, with $21.24 million fully guaranteed at signing, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Patrick Mahomes Expresses Happiness For Tershawn Wharton
The Chiefs re-signed Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and added a new running back in former 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell, who signed a one-year deal for up to $3.5 million, Fox Sports Jordan Schutulz reported. Kansas City also made moves to strengthen defense. KCs promptly re-signed linebacker Nick Bolton for three years, $45 million contract, retaining him as a crucial member of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's defense. However, the Chiefs cannot afford to keep everyone, and in the process defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton, who led the club with 8.5 sacks last season, left to accept a three-year contract with the Carolina Panthers worth more than $54 million.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes reacted at the development and couldn't hide his happiness for the 26-year-old getting the bag. He posted, Happy for my dawg!"
A true homegrown star, who first signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agency from Missouri S&T in 2020, now returns to Carolina as a two-time Super Bowl champion. After re-signing with the Chiefs for a one-year, $2.75 million contract, Wharton enjoyed his best season in 2024. In 17 games and ten starts, he had 29 total tackles and 11 quarterback hits. During their postseason run, Wharton recorded another 8 total tackles and three quarterback hits.
