Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is known for his resilience on the field, but it’s his mother, Randi Mahomes, who is now leaning on strength and faith off the field during an incredibly painful chapter in her family’s life.
Just days after cheering on her son in the Super Bowl, Randi Mahomes faced a personal tragedy—one that has shaken her to the core. On February 14, while much of the world celebrated Valentine’s Day, Randi mourned the loss of her beloved father. The emotional blow comes just a few years after losing her mother, making this recent goodbye especially devastating.
A grieving heart, A courageous voice
Though grief has knocked on her door yet again, Randi has chosen to channel her pain into purpose. In an emotional plea shared via her Instagram Stories, she revealed another deeply distressing piece of news: her cousin’s infant grandson, Luka, has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive pediatric cancer—Stage L2 intermediate neuroblastoma.
"Sweet Luka is in the hospital fighting Stage L2 intermediate neuroblastoma. Luka was a perfectly healthy baby boy up until the day he turned 8 months old and was life-flighted to Dallas Children's Hospital. A large tumor was found on his lung," Randi wrote alongside two touching photos—one of a smiling, innocent baby boy, and another of him lying in a hospital bed, bravely battling for his life.

A sudden turn for baby Luka
Luka was a perfectly healthy baby until the day he turned 8 months old. While enjoying a family vacation, he accidentally inhaled a small amount of pool water. When his breathing difficulties didn’t subside, he was rushed to Dallas Children’s Hospital by airlift. There, doctors made a terrifying discovery: a large tumor pressing against his left lung.
This was the first public acknowledgment of Luka’s diagnosis, and it paints a harrowing picture of how suddenly life can change. Luka has since undergone his first round of chemotherapy and is scheduled for his second session on June 25.
A call for help and hope
Randi's heartfelt message wasn’t just to share pain—it was a call for community support. Alongside her post, she included a link to a GoFundMe page titled "Support Luka’s Battle Against Neuroblastoma." The fundraiser aims to help cover medical costs not supported by insurance and to raise awareness about childhood cancer. The page also expresses a hope to support similar causes in the future, once Luka triumphs over his illness.
In the midst of profound grief and emotional strain, Randi Mahomes continues to shine as a beacon of compassion, using her voice and platform to rally prayers, love, and hope—not just for Luka, but for every family facing such unimaginable challenges.
