Philadelphia Eagles star RB Saquon Barkley gave a scare to the fans ahead of the Super Bowl 59 clash against the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9 in New Orleans. Barkley broke off many big plays on the Eagles' way to the Super Bowl as he recorded five touchdowns in the past two playoff games. His first season at the Eagles in the National Football League (NFL) has been a huge success.
Why did Saquon Barkley miss the practice on Thursday?
During his six seasons with the New York Giants, Barkley enjoyed limited playoff success as he had only one appearance and a 38-7 beatdown against the Eagles in 2022. But, the tables have turned now as he sees himself in a more competitive game and will play one of the biggest games of his career on February 9.
Barkley's name was on the injury report on Thursday, January 31 which scared everyone and made the fans worry till they saw his Did Not Practice (DNP) written in front of his name. However, there is nothing to worry about as Barkley was just given an extra day off to rest for the big game ahead.
Eagles have played smartly when it comes to Saquon Barkley. He was rested for the Week 18 game against the Giants which proved to be a great decision. Barkley had registered 442 yards and had five touchdowns in the three playoff games.
Saquon Barkley's historic season with the Philadelphia Eagles
Saquon Barkley finished the regular season with 2,005 rushing yards which was in a way remarkable and made him the ninth player in league history to cross the 2,000-yard mark. With one game in hand, he also had the chance to surpass Eric Dickerson's all-time record of 2,105 that he made in 1984.
But, that was not the case as head coach Nick Sirianni decided to bench him for the final game of the regular season.
His 255 rushing yards against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12 was a record for the franchise in a single game. He just needs 30 yards more against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl 59 to become the running back with the most yards in a single season.
