It's been a while since Russel Wilson last played a game for the Seattle Seahawks, where he became a star while leading the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. Despite being away from the team for over five years, Wilson still carries a soft corner for his first NFL team.
Russel Wilson's soft corner for Seahawks
The Seahawks won Super Bowl LX, 29-13, defeating the New England Patriots in a game where the defense and the special teams dominated from start to finish. Following they claimed their second Vince Lombardi Trophy, Wilson sent a two-word message to celebrate his former team.
"Go Hawks! 🏆🏆" the New York Giants quarterback wrote.
Russell Wilson featured in 158 games, registering 37,059 yards and 292 touchdowns with 87 interceptions from 2012 through 2021. The veteran then joined the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh steelers and the Giants failing to have his best version back.
He went 1-1 in the Super Bowl with the Seahawks, dominating the Broncos in Super Bowl and losing against the Patriots in Super Bowl 49 in the very play of the game.
Barack Obama congratulates the Seahawks on Super Bowl win
The Seattle Seahawks finished their championship drought on Sunday after winning the Super Bowl LX. Their last win came during the 2013 season.
After the game, former POTUS Barack Obama shared a tweet congratulating Sam Darnold and the Seahawks.
"Congratulations to the Super Bowl champion @Seahawks! This defense was special. MVP Kenneth Walker was dominant. And Sam Darnold gave us one of the best comeback stories in a long time. Enjoy the celebration."
Darnold started his NFL journey with the New York Jets in 2018. Last season, he served as the QB 1 of the Minnesota Vikings in place of the injured J.J. McCarthy. He led the team to reach the playoffs, where they faced against the Rams in a wild-card game.
The Vikings chose not to retain the quarterback. In March, he agreed to a three-year deal worth $100.5 million with the Seahawks. During the regular season, Darnold registered 4,048 yards and 25 TDs passing.
