Stephen A Smith on How Patrick Mahomes Could Eclipse Tom Brady
As the Kansas City Chiefs are on the quest to win the Super Bowl for the third consecutive time, the 3-peat will cement Patrick Mahomes legacy forever and he will go down as the greatest Quarterback in the history of the game, according to Smith. Tom Brady's New England Patriots did win back-to-back Super Bowls in 2004 and 2005, but they could not comeback to retain the championship next time, something which Mahomes' Chiefs could do and make history.
"It's never been done in the history of football,' Smith said when asked about the feat. After noting the lack of roughness in today's NFL, Smith emphasized how football is still the most physical sport.
"To be in this era, with these outstanding athletes, the way the game has evolved and the kind of athletes you have to go up against,' Smith laid out.
"To threepeat as a Super Bowl champion, especially when you consider it's the same quarterback, the same tight end, the same head coach, it's the same defensive coordinator,' he added. 'When you look at these guys, somehow, someway, you would think at some point somebody would answer the call.'
'If you fail to do so and they win a threepeat, Tom Brady didn't even win back-to-back-to-back Super Bowl titles. It would be huge for the sport. It would be huge for the city. It would be huge for the franchise.'
"And it would cement Patrick Mahomes as the greatest quarterback in the history of the National Football League,' he concluded.
While the Kansas City Chiefs are one win away from reaching the Super Bowl 49, but it will be a daunting task to go past Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game. The Bills vs Chiefs game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 25, 2025, at Arrowhead Stadium.
