Anahat Singh has reached the historic gold-medal match and is one win away from direct qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics. This is the teenage sensation’s biggest win of her career so far, beating World No. 6 Satomi Watanabe 3-2.

Trailing by two games and saving match points in the third, Singh fought back to claim the next three games and secure her place in the final. The result makes Singh the first Indian woman ever to reach the Asian Games women’s singles squash final. Previous best performances by Indian players, including Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa, were limited to bronze medals.

The match was halted mid-match as the Indian squash player received medical attention after the collision. Apart from creating history, a gold medal in the final would also deliver direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Singh already has two Asian Games bronze medals from Hangzhou 2022, earned in mixed doubles and the team event.
Singh will now contest the gold-medal match, with the chance to rewrite the record books for Indian squash. On the other hand, in the men’s format, Abhay Singh beat Pakistan’s Muhammad Ashab Irfan 3-0 (11-3, 12-10, 11-6) to reach the gold medal match.
