India have stormed into the Asian Games semi-finals with a dominant win over the host nation, Japan. India’s women produced a clinical performance to thrash the hosts by eight wickets and book their place in the semi-finals of the Asian Games T20 cricket competition on Friday.

Japan were restricted to just 57 all out, with left-arm spinner Sree Charani claiming outstanding figures of 4 for 10. Shafali Verma then sealed the chase in emphatic style, blasting an unbeaten 40 from only 15 balls, which included six fours and two sixes as India reached 59 for 2 in five overs.

The victory, achieved with 15 overs remaining at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, sends the defending champions into a semi-final clash against Bangladesh. Shafali picked up a huge six to seal the deal for India as she was unbeaten on 40 off 15 balls. Meanwhile, Pakistan will meet Sri Lanka in the other last-four tie.
