Gold rush continues! Neeru-Kynan break Asian record to beat Qatar in final despite slow start

Neeru Dhanda won her third medal in the ongoing Asian Games 2026. In the trap mixed team shooting event, the pair of Neeru and Kynan Chenai broke the Asian record to win a gold medal, beating Qatar's Mohammed Al-Rumaihi and Ray Bassil in the final. 

The Indian pair secured 34 points to win the gold while Qatar bagged a silver medal. China had to settle for a bronze medal.

The previous Asian record was 30 but India scored 34 to script history at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026. The previous record belonged to Qatar with 30 points in January 2026 in Doha. Qatar surpassed their record with 32 points to win the silver.

It wasn't an ideal start for India as they hit six in the first series. But, Neeru and Kynan made a terrific comeback with a perfect 10 in second and third series. The pair missed only two shots in the fourth series but won a gold medal with a two-point difference.

2 gold and a silver for Neeru

This is Neeru’s second gold medal at Asian Games 2026. On September 29, she won a gold medal in the individual women’s trap event. Before that, she had alongside Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer won the silver medal in women's trap team event. Neeru had qualified for the individual final with a record in the qualifying round. She went on to break the Asian Games record with 28 out of 30 shots to win the gold in individual event. She won the only individual gold for India at the Asian Games so far.

Gold medals tally soars

This is India’s ninth gold medal at the Asian Games and third on Day 11. Earlier in the day, Indian archery women’s compound team and mixed compound team secured a gold medal.
