Gulveer Singh wins silver in men's 10,000m, becomes 1st Indian to achieve unique feat

India’s Gulveer Singh scripted history on September 25 with a silver medal in men’s 10,000m race at Asian Games 2026. Gulveer’s Asian Games silver comes weeks after his silver medal at Commonwealth Games 2026. Gulveer is the only Indian to win a silver in both tournaments in men’s 10,000m category.

Gulveer clocked 28:29.38 in the final. Bahrain's Birhanu Balew won the gold medal, clocking 28:27.51. Bahrain secured a double podium. Their Albert Kiptoo finished third, clocking at 28:34.38 to secure a bronze medal.

Gulveer’s list of medals at major tournaments

This is Gulveer's second Asian Games medal. In the Hangzhou Asian Games, he had bagged a bronze medal in men's 10,000m category as well. In Glasgow CWG 2026, he had bagged a bronze medal in men's 5,000m category. Last year, he got a gold medal each in men's 10,000m and 5,000m categories at Asian Championships. He had a bronze medal in 2023 edition of Asian Championships in the men's 5,000m category.

Gulveer is an exceptional long-distance runner. A few months ago, he became the first Indian to complete the half-marathon in under an hour. In the New York City Half Marathon, he clocked 59 minutes, 42 seconds and finished third. In 2025, he had broken another record by running a sub-four-minute mile. He had run a mile in just 3 minutes and 55.63 seconds.
