India women's archery team equal world record to beat China and win gold, take tally to 7

India women's compound archery team scripted history at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 to win a gold medal. India beat China 238-234 to retain their Asian Games gold medal at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park. The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep equalled the world record held by South Korea which was created at the Incheon Asian Games 2014.

The Chinese team featuring Wunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei secured a silver medal whereas South Korea's team comprising Park Jungyoon, Park Yerin and Kang Yeonseo won the bronze medal with a win over Chinese Taipei archers.

The Indian team scored perfect 10s in the opening end, taking a two-point lead over China. In the second end, India scored 59 points and took a three-point lead. China made a comeback in the third end with perfect 10s while India scored 59. But, in the final end, India took the game away with perfect 10s while China scored 58.

Earlier, India had beaten Korea in a nail-biting semifinal by 234-233. In the semifinal, Korea scored perfect 10s in the third end. But, they paid the price for scoring 56 in the second end and lost out on a gold medal match by a whisker.

In 2023 Asian Games, India had won a gold medal in women's compound team event as well. Overall, India had bagged five gold medals in archery in Hangzhou.
