Former Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi was momentarily disappointed at his teammate Rahmat Shah for dropping a catch at slips in the first ODI of the three-ODI series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka.

The incident took place in the first over of Pakistan’s innings after skipper Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first. On the fourth ball of the over, Farooqi pitched it full and wide drawing Zaman into a drive. Zaman fell into the trap and drove away from the body. The out-swinging delivery took a thick outside edge and went to second slip fielder Shah as the ball popped out of his hands.

On the rebound, Nabi was quick to react and took the catch comfortably. While Shah tried to celebrate the wicket with Nabi the latter threatened to hit him with the throw.

Nabi then walked towards his teammates and celebrated the wicket of Zaman who departed after scoring just two runs from four balls.

Pakistan got off to a horrible start at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota. Skipper Azam was dismissed leg before wicket in the next over by Mujeeb Ur Rahman for a three-ball duck. Later, the spinner got the wicket of wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan as well who hit four fours in his 22-ball 21.

Earlier, Azam at the coin toss made it clear that he is treating the three-ODI series against Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side as preparation for Asia Cup and the World Cup.

“We just need to believe in ourselves and play with a clear mindset. We have our ideas locked in for the Asia Cup and the World Cup, but there are still a few youngsters we want to try, that's why we have a squad of 18,” he said.

On the other hand, Shahidi made it clear that his side is not afraid to take the attack to the opposition as he said, “Our unit has been performing well, specifically the bowlers and we want to challenge the big teams now.”
