Abhishek Sharma on brink of shattering Virat Kohli's all-time record in IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2025 final

In-form opener Abhishek Sharma is on the verge of eclipsing records set by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammed Rizwan as India prepares to face arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on September 28. 

In the Asia Cup so far, Abhishek has been the standout batter. Across six matches and innings, he has emerged as the top run-getter, amassing 309 runs at an impressive average of 51.50 and a strike rate of 204.63. This tally includes three successive half-centuries, all achieved during the Super Four stage, with a best score of 75.

Abhishek now stands just 11 runs away from breaking Virat Kohli's record for the most runs scored by an Indian in a multi-nation T20I tournament.

Kohli set the benchmark back in the 2014 T20 World Cup, where he scored 319 runs in six innings at an average of 106.33 in a Player of the Tournament-winning campaign.

Furthermore, Abhishek is only 23 runs away from breaking England opener Phil Salt's record for the most runs by a batter from a Test-playing nation in any T20I tournament or series. Salt achieved 331 runs in five T20Is against the West Indies in 2023.

Abhishek is currently tied with both Rohit Sharma (from November 2021 to February 2022) and Mohammed Rizwan (from April to October 2021) for the most successive 30-plus scores in T20s, a streak that currently stands at seven. Scoring another 30 or more runs in the final would see him leapfrog both the batters.
