The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, where Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side and Test skipper Shubman Gill will be his deputy. One of the massive omissions from India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025 is Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed batter is in the purple patch of his career, and his recent outing came in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in England.
However, the BCCI chief selector answered why Jaiswal was unable to seal his berth in the mega event. He said that they picked Abhishek Sharma over him because he is in the lethal form and can roll his arm as well, and they have to pick one out of the two.
"It's very unfortunate for Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Abhishek doing well, he can bowl as well - one of the two was going to miss out" said Ajit Agarkar while attending media after the squad announcement at BCCI office in Mumbai.
Jaiswal's last T20I outing came against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. The Southpaw played 23 T20Is and scored 723runs, since making his debut against West Indies in 2023.
Asia Cup is scheduled to start from September 9 and India, placed in Group A will start their campaign against UAE the next day at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. The high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan will take place on September 14 at the same venue.
This is the first assignment for Suryakumar Yadav to lead India in a continental tournament since Rohit-led India to a dominating win in the last edition of the mega event hosted by Sri Lanka
