Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have added middle-order batter Janith Liyanage to Sri Lanka's Asia Cup 2025 squad ahead of their campaign opener. This will be Liyanage's first T20I appearance after three years. Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka will start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against Bangladesh on September 13 in Abu Dhabi. 

The 30-year-old  Liyanage is recognised as a white-ball specialist, featuring in 28 ODIs, amassing 824 runs, alongside three previous T20I appearances.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) took their 'X', formerly known as Twitter to announce Liyanage's addition to the Asia Cup 2025 squad. 
 

"Asia Cup 2025 – Squad Update The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has included Janith Liyanage in the Sri Lanka squad for the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025. With his inclusion, the squad strength has now increased to 17 players" Sri Lanka Cricket wrote on 'X'.

 

Liyanage's inclusion came in the squad after his recent outing in the ODI series against Zimbabwe in Harare, contributing an unbeaten 70 and 19 to help Sri Lanka secure a 2-0 sweep. His last T20I came in against India in Dharamsala in February 2022.

He has already joined Sri Lanka squad in Dubai,  travelling alongside premier spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who is making his comeback from a hamstring injury and will soon integrate with the squad.

After featuring in a white ball series against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka reached Dubai on September 9 and will remain based in Abu Dhabi for the group stage. After their clash against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka will take on Hong Kong on September 15 and Afghanistan on September 18 in Group B.
