India defeated Pakistan three times in the T20 Asia Cup 2025 to win the trophy. Suryakumar Yadav-led India did not lose a single game in the tournament and dominated the proceedings. But, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi ran away with the trophy as the Indian contingent did not want him handing it over. A week later, the drama still continues just because he felt he "looked like a cartoon” standing during the presentation ceremony, waiting for Suryakumar even though he knew his stance. India all-rounder Rahul Tewatia who is teammate of India's Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill at Gujarat Titans (GT), slammed Naqvi.
“As far as the trophy is concerned, based on what we heard and saw, we did not get the trophy. Our players and management were waiting. We found out that the trophy wasn’t given. The players were made to wait for a long time, and the trophy was taken back. They went to play cricket and won the final. In history, the name of the person who won the final is often recorded, regardless of whether the trophy was awarded or not,” Tewatia told ANI.
“They did not give us the trophy. That’s their headache. India won the final. By taking the trophy back, the Pakistan team has not won it,” he added.
Despite not getting the trophy, the spirits of the Indian team did not take a hit. They celebrated without the trophy as Naqvi went back to the hotel.

Acknowledging a cowardly act
Reportedly, Naqvi is set to be honoured with the Shaheen Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Excellence Gold Medal for his cowardly act labelled as "principled and courageous stance" by the government. However, it does not change the fact that he merely ran away with the trophy, throwing a tantrum and the Indian team is still the Asia Cup 2025 champions.
Team India proceed business as usual
While the Pakistan team, management and board are still in meltdown mode, India have started their home season with a thumping win over West Indies, climbing to the third spot on the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings.
