Suryakumar Yadav speaks at a post-match press conference; Indian players drop catches against Pakistan in T20 Asia Cup 2025 clash.

Story Highlights:

Abhishek Sharma dropped two catches but took a stunner to dismiss Saim Ayub.

Suryakumar Yadav feels dropping catches is just a part of the game.

On September 21, India’s fielding coach T Dilip was not impressed as four catches were dropped in the T20 Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours clash against Pakistan. Opener Sahibzada Farhan was dropped twice and he went on to score a half-century. Dropped catches of Saim Ayub and Faheem Ashraf cost India a few rubs as Pakistan managed to post 171/5 on the board. But, India made amends with the bat and chased down the target with six wickets in hand and seven balls to spare. After the victory, India captain Suryakumar Yadav took a cheeky dig at his teammates for the missed chances.

"Acha bhi puch lo (Ask some positive query as well). It’s okay. I think fielding coach has already emailed the boys to visit the office tomorrow and day after - all those guys who had butter fingers," Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference on a lighter note.

However, Suryakumar downplayed the impact of dropped catches. He feels it is part of the game and its better it happened in the first Super Fours game rather than later.

"This is completely part of the game and I am okay with it because it’s good that it happened in the first game. Going ahead we have to play more crucial games, but it’s okay. It happens, it’s part of the game," the Indian captain added.

List of dropped catches against Pakistan

Abhishek dropped the first catch on the third ball of the first over. Farhan got a thick edge to third man, Abhishek misjudged it and wasted the opportunity. In the fifth over, Saim Ayub top-edged one towards short fine-leg but Kuldeep Yadav dropped an easy one. Later, in the eighth over, Varun Chakravarthy created another chance. This time, it was a tough chance for Abhishek who was running towards his right. He got his right hand to it but the ball bounced off it and went over the ropes. The fourth and last dropped catch was in the penultimate over off Jasprit Bumrah's bowling. Ashraf played a pull shot and Shubman Gill put down a dolly at deep mid-wicket.

Abhishek makes amends

Abhishek made up for two dropped catches. In the 11th over, Ayub top-edged one off Shivam Dube. Abhishek came running from deep backward square leg, dived forward and completed the catch just outside the 30-yard circle. With the bat, he tormented Pakistan bowling lineup, scoring 74 runs from just 39 balls in the run chase.
